Artist's Statement
The driving force behind my photography is my passion for uncovering details. My images are about the things we so often overlook, particularly in everyday objects. The way I present those details aims to shake up our preconceptions of what we think we know about how things look.
My love of music and fascination with how things are made inspired me to undertake my ongoing project entitled "The Music You Can't Hear." This project spotlights the work of Maine's stringed instrument makers or luthiers. Moving beyond straight documentary, the images explore the instruments' materials and forms as pieces of sculpture: works of art in their own right before they even make a sound.
