Artist's Statement
About 30 years ago, my German maternal grandmother gave me her huge set of 180 Rembrandt pastels which she had become too blind to navigate. These I've schlepped around the world with me, from Germany to England to Scotland and then 21 years ago to the United States when I married. Having taken the required drawing class the previous semester, in January 2009 as a student of David Haskins at Husson University I began for the first time in my life to use color and specifically pastels. This is my first foray into art classes and into drawing or painting other than my childhood 5 x 7" pencil sketchbooks in which my siblings and I had to record our summer vacations in Switzerland, Germany, and Scotland. I never did get to sketch alongside my grandmother, but wish she were alive to see me using her pastels and enjoying this beautiful place that is Maine.
